The Millecolori
choir
The Millecolori choir brings together Roma and Neapolitan children and teenagers from the most marginal parts of Scampia, who attend the Millecolori centre. It is made of treble voices, plus a percussion section, a guitar section and a wind section.
What a choir does in Scampia
The choir supports the children's human and cultural growth through an education in musical beauty. It works to give back the social, human and spiritual dignity that the deprivation they grow up in takes from them, and it is also a chance to grow in the integration of different communities living side by side.
The aim is that the children who come to the centre develop:
- a greater awareness of their own talents and their own musical traditions;
- a stronger sense of their human and social dignity;
- the awareness that music can be, for those who want it, a training and a profession;
- the awareness that commitment to music is a way out of the criminal surroundings they come from.
We helped pay part of the teachers' costs and the minibus that takes the children to the wind-instrument classes in the centre of Naples. That let the choir and orchestra work calmly, build a repertoire, give their first concerts and reach a wider audience.
The choir in photographs
The projects in Burundi and Cuba began together with Spagnolli-Bazzoni Onlus of Rovereto, the association thanks to which the Echoo team took its first steps, receiving both trust and financial support.
